Shaboozey to Headline Lions-Bears Thanksgiving Halftime Show After CMA Awards Snub
Despite a setback at the 58th Annual CMA Awards, where he was nominated for both New Artist of the Year and Single of the Year but walked away empty-handed, Shaboozey is ready to reclaim the spotlight this Thanksgiving.
The country music artist, whose hit “A Bar Song” has dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for 17 weeks, will take center stage during the Detroit Lions’ Thanksgiving Day game against the Chicago Bears.
The performance, scheduled for the halftime show on Thursday, November 28, comes just days after Shaboozey’s losses at the CMA Awards, where he was overlooked despite his chart-topping success. However, the artist has his sights set on a bigger prize—Shaboozey is nominated in five categories for the 2025 Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and Best Melodic Rap Performance for his collaboration with Beyoncé and Linda Martell on “Spaghettii.” He’s also up for Song of the Year, Best Country Song, and Best Country Solo Performance for “A Bar Song,” marking a potential career-defining moment in February.
Shaboozey had performed both “Highway” and “A Bar Song” at the CMA Awards on November 20th, later sharing his gratitude for the nominations on X. In one post, he wrote, "Win or lose, I’m blessed by something or someone that has a power beyond my understanding."
In a follow-up, he reflected, "I’m here today hopefully living in my purpose, and if my music makes even the tiniest positive impact in someone’s life, I can die with a smile. Country music changed my life and I’m forever grateful to it and for it."
The Thanksgiving Day matchup at Ford Field in Detroit kicks off at 12:30 p.m. ET, live on CBS, with Shaboozey’s highly anticipated halftime performance set to bring energy and heart to the holiday celebration. Despite the CMA setback, this moment on the NFL stage proves that Shaboozey’s journey in country music is just getting started.
