Issa Rae Is Pure Black Girl Magic

I love all things black girl magic, and I especially love seeing black women progress and be shown off. You don’t realize the impact that people can have on our lives or how important portrayal in the media is. Now there is an emphasis on black and brown women accelerating to new heights, and those watching have newfound hope that they too can achieve great success.

I especially love the journey of Issa Rae. I remember being introduced to Issa as a Youtuber who created funny videos and short video skits: “The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl”. Now Ms. Rae graces the front cover of magazines, has a multitude of shows, and is on the big screen with a multitude of movies. I can only imagine what a small seed of faith that was planted has now bloomed into something more, as her cup overflows with opportunity and success.

Starting out your own business or trying to pursue your dreams can be daunting and scary and there are so many what-if factors, but when you just believe in yourself and do what you can to plant and nourish your seeds, it is only a matter of time before your garden blooms. Your path or success may not look like the next one, but in the end, the result is the same: you have achieved it! You have made it to your goals, and once you've achieved one goal, you know you can continue to achieve many more.

Issa Rae is just one example of black girl magic, as there are so many more women shining their light and making a stand. I personally connect with her story and her journey because it was a few short years ago when I first heard of her name, and now I can see this woman bloom.

She gives me hope that one day I too can achieve, as long as I keep believing. Issa is an inspiration to myself, and others alike that your whole life can change, but only if you believe in yourself and what you have to offer to the world.

Surely the path she had to take took a lot of hard work, self-motivation, and true discipline, but keep trying, tomorrow just might be the day your whole life can change. I am especially proud of all the brown and black girls being represented in today’s media. There was never space for us to be promoted, but now we are grabbing at success and showing the world that if it can happen for me, or for her, it can happen for you too.

In conclusion, hold on to the truth, your light is needed in this world and your time may not be right now, but in due time it will be yours and yours alone, so keep the faith and keep pushing; you are the missing piece.
