Who Is Landon? A Journal Entry

When Sahaar (the amazing Owner and Founder of Nubian Impulse) contacted me to write for Nubian Impulse, I jumped at the opportunity. I’ve always felt that in a life where music hadn’t found me, I probably would have been a journalist. This opportunity allowed me to live both dreams at once.

At first, I thought the best thing to do was to push my music side away in the name of “journalistic integrity.” But as time went on, I realized I’d be doing a disservice to my audience — and to myself — if I didn’t document my journey. Integrity, after all, requires transparency. And so, I decided to write openly about my path to becoming a full-time artist and creative, while documenting the process of building my next album.
Allow me to reintroduce myself.
My name is Landon Thomas. Most women call me Lan. I also go by Luvsong Lan. I’ve been singing since I was four years old. I come from a family of musicians, much like the Jacksons or the DeBarges. From Pittsburgh, PA, my family never got the chance to break into the mainstream, but I’m ambitious enough to believe I can change that.
Growing up around music, I picked up the love for it early and never wanted to do anything else. I started writing songs at 12. At the time, my father was incarcerated, and singing alone wasn’t enough — I needed another outlet. That’s when I truly connected with songwriting and began finding myself in music.
By high school, I had already decided this was going to be my career. My friends and I used to sneak into the school just to record. (Once, we even ended up in a few sessions with a pimp who was also an engineer — but that’s a story for another day.) Eventually, I began performing in the city, opening for Ginuwine, RL, Jagged Edge, Keke Wyatt, and more. I landed my first sync license at 21, and since then, I’ve released albums and projects that have been featured on Apple Music, Audiomack, BBC Radio, and more.
Alongside music, life kept moving. I’ve worked jobs since I was 14 (still working full-time today), helped raise my brother and nephew, and now I have a daughter of my own. I dropped out of art school, re-enrolled, and earned my first degree. I also started an independent label, partnered with Symphonic Distribution, and have been running that operation for over a decade. I’ve never signed a major deal (maybe one day — we’ll see as the plot thickens). I’m also preparing to launch my first creative studio, Seven Streams (VII Streams), opening in 2026.
Going forward, this space will serve as my journal. I’ll be documenting the process of building my next full project, 999-Luv Line (executive produced by Stoney Mixes), which is set to release in 2026. This will be the first project I build away from my hometown, now that I’ve relocated to Jacksonville and am learning to engineer. I plan to document my travels — to Atlanta, LA, Paris, New York, and back to Pittsburgh — where I’ll record the final process and collaborate with others.

This will also be my first time intentionally networking with other writers and stepping deeper into the world of songwriting. I want to share that behind-the-scenes process — not just the polished results.
Beyond the music, I’ll be transparent about my personal journey too — building a life in a new city, navigating singlehood, networking, dating, and figuring out my place in it all. I believe it’s important to document this moment in my own words, offering not only my history and perspective but also a real-time view into everything I’m working toward.
With that said, I’m signing off. Thank you for loving me and walking with me on this journey.
With Luv,
Landon
