Law Roach Explains Why Keke Palmer Fired Him as Her Stylist
The celebrity stylist reflects on their creative differences, a pregnancy she wanted to keep private, and why he believes Palmer made the right business decision.
Even the most celebrated names in fashion cannot guarantee the perfect creative partnership. Celebrity stylist Law Roach is reflecting on that reality after revisiting his former working relationship with actress and entertainer Keke Palmer, admitting that he struggled to deliver the looks she wanted and ultimately understood why she decided to let him go.

During an October 20 appearance on Aspire with Emma Grede, Roach discussed the split with a sense of perspective, emphasizing that the decision was never personal. Instead, he acknowledged that the professional relationship simply was not working as Palmer needed it to.
“I couldn’t get it right,” Roach explained, according to E! News. He added that Palmer made the right call, describing the decision as a sound business move rather than a personal rejection. Read E! News' report.
At the center of their disagreement was a deeply personal moment in Palmer's life. Roach explained that he was styling the actress while she was pregnant with her son, Leodis, whom she welcomed in February 2023. At the time, Palmer wanted to keep her pregnancy private, which meant finding outfits that concealed her growing baby bump.
Roach, however, envisioned a different approach. Excited by the possibilities of maternity fashion, he wanted to create looks that celebrated her pregnancy and made her changing silhouette part of the visual story. Palmer was not ready to share that experience publicly, and the two struggled to find common ground.
The stylist acknowledged that he could not deliver the looks or energy Palmer wanted. He recalled her telling him directly, “You might be the best stylist in the world, but you are not the best stylist for me.”
It was a distinction he ultimately respected.
For Roach, the situation underscored the limits of creative expertise when it does not align with a client's personal vision. His ideas might have worked beautifully for another celebrity, but Palmer had a different relationship with her image at that moment. Her decision about when to announce her pregnancy belonged to her alone.

The story offers a useful reminder about the relationship between talent and professional compatibility. In celebrity fashion, stylists are often recognized for developing signature looks, shaping public perception, and helping clients establish recognizable identities. But a stylist's reputation cannot replace the trust and communication required to build a successful partnership.
Palmer's decision illustrates the importance of understanding what a working relationship should deliver. Hiring a respected professional does not mean surrendering personal preferences or accepting a vision that does not feel authentic. Even when both parties bring considerable talent to the table, their approaches may not align.
Roach has also been candid about the importance of working with clients who recognize the value he brings. His experience with Palmer reinforces that professional success depends on more than an impressive résumé. It requires a shared understanding of the assignment, mutual respect, and the ability to translate a client's goals into a cohesive creative direction.
In that sense, the split was not necessarily a failure. It was an acknowledgment that the partnership could not meet Palmer's needs at that time.

Despite the end of their professional relationship, Roach has made clear that he continues to care for Palmer. The two have spoken warmly about their history in public, including during a 2024 panel celebrating his book, How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence from the World's Only Image Architect.
Palmer has also joked about Roach's penchant for sharp commentary, demonstrating the ease with which they can discuss their differences without turning the experience into a public feud.
Their continued affection is an important part of the story. Professional disagreements do not always require personal animosity, and recognizing that a partnership is no longer working can be an act of mutual respect.
Roach's willingness to discuss the experience without blaming Palmer also speaks to the importance of accountability in creative industries. He has acknowledged that he could not deliver what she wanted, rather than insisting that she should have accepted his vision simply because of his standing in fashion.
